Marvel’s Midnight Suns has brought Kushala, one of the most amazing heroes of all time, back into the spotlight and shows just how amazing she truly is.

marvel’s midnight suns brought together some of the world’s most terrifying heroes to ward off a whole new kind of supernatural threat. While iconic characters such as Blade and Wolverine are far from unexpected, not all members of this new team are equally recognizable. Thankfully, darkness isn’t an ability charge, and Kushala is more capable than most – not only as a spirit of vengeance, but also as the Sorcerer Supreme of his time.
When Zoe Laveau, one of the late Doctor Strange’s top students, suffers from a horrifying vision of herself playing a part in a supernatural apocalypse, the whole school finds themselves having the exact same vision. As seen in the pages of midnight suns #1 (by VC’s Ethan Sacks, Luigi Zagaria, Antonio Fabela, Carlos Lao, and Joe Sabino), the premonition of dark things to come isn’t limited to the grounds of Strange Academy. All over the world, Masters of the Mystical Arts are experiencing the same vision and although their reactions vary, the Spirit Rider’s response is to take immediate action.

When it first appeared in the pages of 2016 Doctor Strange and the Sorcerer Supremes #1 (by Robbie Thompson and Javier Rodriguez), Kushala was one of several masters of the mystical arts that the titular hero called upon. Soon it was revealed that she had bonded over a spirit of revenge in the 1800s after her tribe was slaughtered at the hands of the US military. As the Demon Rider, Kushala sought revenge for her fallen Apache, though she was not entirely absorbed in the notion. Along the way, Kushala studied tirelessly in hopes of understanding her curse, and in doing so, she became the Sorceress Supreme of her generation.
In the years that followed, Kushala would play a leading role in events such as the War of the Kingdoms, however, it was when Johnny Blaze became host to a new demon that she cemented her place in the Marvel Universe beyond her own time. Leviathan, the remains of a tortured planet transported to the present on a shard of the Sixth Cosmos, was revealed to be the source of Kushala’s Spirit of Vengeance. One of those same shards was what corrupted the original Ghost Rider himself, and it fell to Kushala to tame and subsequently consume the pieces that had previously gone unnoticed.

By literally eating the very demon that gives her power, Kushala has proven herself to be a force to be reckoned with beyond her position as Demon or Spirit Rider, or even Sorcerer Supreme. Over the centuries, Kushala has not only managed to keep up with anything the universe throws at her, but she’s also led the charge against any threat that has come her way. Regardless of the circumstances, Kushala will always answer any call that comes her way, despite the fact that she had to give up so much to do so.
Although she had many opportunities to return to her time and even did so on occasion, Kushala still chose to return to the present when she was needed. The fact that she’s left her family behind again shows what a hero she really is, while the fact that she hasn’t returned yet proves that she knows as well as anyone that her work here doesn’t matter. is not finished. . Hopefully it will be soon, only because it means the world will be saved, and not to not want to see the Spirit Rider step out of the spotlight.
